Big Trees and Tiny Trailers

Imagine a grove of giant redwood trees with tiny camping trailers nestled among the ferns like toadstools. Thursday we discovered we would be in the neighborhood of the International Redwood Gathering of the teardrop and tiny trailers in Pamplin Grove of the Redwood Forest. They welcomed us like long lost friends, inviting us to camp overnight, shared their dutch oven meals and even provided a drive-in style movie.

We enjoyed sitting around a campfire watching Lucy and Desi on the big screen in the Long Long Trailer, a 1954 production. The movie was a pretty good depiction of some of our exploits. We discovered we had a lot in common with this group of folks, they enjoy their hobby and sharing it with others. It was hard to leave our new friends, they had fun activities and lots of good food planned for the next several days but we needed to get further down the road and see the rest of the redwoods.

  2. Great pictures again! Thanks for continuing my education, I’ve heard about tree huggers for years but never had the chance to see one. Do they usually travel in pairs or quads? Any chance you might be able to locate and photograph Sasquatch and the Loch Ness creature? Mini trailers rock!!!!
