Bought Ice from Elvis

Left Turlock and Eric and his new family at 5:30 a.m. to beat the heat.  It was a good drive with not much traffic, and we seem to be rolling along.  It started to  heat up about noon, as we were crossing the Sierra Nevada mountain range.  We fought the heat and mountains  the rest of the way.  We had to stop several times on top of the mountains to cool the engines down and add water.   Snow was still seen on top of  the mountains with the temperature in the valley reaching 104 degrees.   We were so hot we decided to get another bag of ice at the next stop.  Here is where Elvis came in.  He was behind the counter and a dead ringer for the King, he even sang to us. The one time you meet an Elvis look alike and you have left your camera in the car.  The ice worked, it help get us cool for awhile.

We pulled over for the night in Fallon, NV.  The wind had started up and we are feeling much better under the trees, it even looks like rain.  We plan to get up at 5:00 a.m. in the morning and try to get ahead of the heat and a few more mountains to  climb.

We would like to thank Eric for taking his time to post all our pictures.  Tammy and I are good at posting one at a time but not multiples, so Eric said he would post them for us so all our friends could see them along with us.

  1. Mike and Judy, congratulations on youe beautiful granddaughter. It was great that you got to be there for the big event. Thanks to all of you for letting us share in your trip. The pictures are great.

  2. We have enjoyed your diary almost from day one and wish you
more happy trails as you head home. A possible campground for you on Route 50 might be the Starlight campground (thestarlightcampround.com 619-467-3876)just west of Canon City, Colorado, run by Larry Hill. I have no connection with the campground, except that Larry restored a camp trailer for us a couple years ago (and did a great job) and I know he is putting together a neat campground composed of restored trailers and regular camping spots. We are headed out away from the computer for a few days, so I thought would mention this possibility to you now, even though it isn’t in Nevada. Take care. Yours truly, Bill Macdonald

  3. I bet if you had been cooler before you walked into the store, you would have just seen a normal, behind the counter, clerk. But noooo, you had to see Elvis at least once on this trip. Was he on vacation from Vegas?

Congratulations Mike and Judy!!! So happy for you and your son’s new family. It’s been a great year for all of us!
