Moose sighting!
Moose sighting!

Driving to Fairbanks Sunday morning I saw my first moose. I have been watching every since we entered into Alaska. Everyone spots wild life before me. I have a milepost across my lap, radio in my hand, pen in the other hand and my eyes on the milepost looking for the next gas station. Gas stations are scarce and we have to keep our tanks full. Now back to seeing my first moose, Michael spots it first and by the time I pick up my radio to tell Tammy “moose to the right” we had already gone by and I missed it. Michael makes a U-turn in the middle of the Alaska Highway so I can get a look. He was huge, our first big bull. I am a happy camper.

We made it to Alaska!

We crossed the Alaska state line on Saturday afternoon and even though the scenery was similar to the Yukon, there was an immediate feeling that something was different and in some strange way -we were home! The entrance into our beloved homeland was currently under road construction and the dirt, gravel, and dust became a constant companion for many miles. You could take away all the modern cars and RV’s and our grimy little Fords and campers on the horrible roads would appear to be a scene straight out the movie “The Experts also suggest Gynecure capsules to achieve the prescription viagra without desired erection. Our camp site for the night will be in the town of Tok at the Sourdough Campground – home of sourdough flapjacks and reindeer sausage. We want to again thank everyone for all their prayers and support and PLEASE don’t stop now! We still have a lot of Alaska to see and many more new roads to cover.

Grizzly Bear

We drove 246 miles today. The campsite is very nice and peaceful beside a tranquil lake. We are still in the Yukon at Dawson Peak campground. We plan to go across the border into Alaska tomorrow.
Tammy got her ultimate photo today to go with her collection. We saw a grizzly bear beside the road and Danny drove her close enough to get a great shot of the bear. She is a great photographer and I am amazed to see her in action. She does whatever she needs to get a great shot, even using Danny as bear bait.

Mile Zero on Alaskan Highway

Judy who normally does the blog each evening is having technical difficulties with her computer tonight and has asked Danny and I to fill in. We have reached Dawson Creek, British Columbia where the Alaskan Highway begins. We were able to find a campground very close to the start of tomorrow’s journey. Mike and Judy are wonderful traveling companions, they have put a lot of work into planning this trip and it shows. We get up each day looking forward to another adventure on the road comforted knowing so many are praying for our safety and taking care of the many responsibilities we left at home.

Canada, eh…

Eric here… My mom, Judy, called to say they are in a campground without internet, but wanted to phone in today’s travels. So I’ll do my best to relay the message (Now with Pictures!):

They are currently in Sangudo, Alberta Canada (population 385). They had a long day of non-stop driving that took them through Calgary and Edmonton. They traveled a total of 330 miles before they pulled into the tiny town.  When they got there they were treated to a huge once a year antique tractor pull event taking place on the grounds of the huge 5 acre campground. Over 92 antique tractors were in the event, but even more surprises were in store!

At the campground were all sorts of antique wonders. The collection, gathered by the campground owner, included old gas pumps, washtubs, wash machines, and even a replica of a 30s Model A roadster in a garage. Also on the grounds was an old school house filled with old books. Needless to say, Danny, Tammy, and my parents were in awe of all the wonderful antique treasures, and felt at home with their cars.

The owner was equally interested to see 2 Model A cars pull into the campground with trailers. As a result they were invited to a free dinner after the tractor pull, and after dinner got to enjoy some ice cream from the antique ice cream parlor.

The temperature is mild during the day, but chilly at night. My mom described it as short sleeve weather by day, but hooded sweatshirt weather by night.

Tomorrow they hope to make it to Dawson Creek in British Columbia were they may have access to wi-fi again. If not, you may be hearing from me again…
